It's been two weeks since I relaunched my Patreon platform. Have you checked it out yet?? If not, here's why you should!
In case you missed my last explanation, "Patreon is a membership platform that makes it easy for artists and creators to get paid."
I firmly believe that everyone deserves to make a living wage, no matter their profession.
As a creator, I have something to give you. I try to release a story every couple of months, and you do your awesome thing by buying it and supporting me. But what about those months when I don't release anything? It takes time to create a worthwhile product, and that time very often means I don't make much money in the period between releases.
Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining at all! I love what I do, and I know I have been much more fortunate than others when it comes to sales and acquiring the things I need to make it all work. I have the best readers in the world and am continually grateful for the support you have shown me ♥ Some months are more challenging than others, though. The money I make off being an author helps pay for my basic needs, as well as the basic needs of my family. Whatever is left goes to my work. Sometimes, that's a fair amount. Sometimes it's nothing.
Despite what you may think, there is some overhead to being an independently published author! Personally, I have several programs that help me organize my thoughts, get them written, and turn them into a story. I also pay for edits, cover images, Photoshop (I design and create most of my covers myself, if you didn't know), a myriad of different ad platforms, classes to understand how those platforms work, the list goes on and on. As you can imagine, those costs add up over time. It's especially difficult when you have to pay for all of those things in advance of releasing a book, as well as when that book (or books, in my case) is your sole income.
In these times of uncertainty, a lot of people are wondering where their next paycheck is going to come from. I feel this way often 😅 As an author, you always hope your work will go over well and help support you. While it can very often go over well with readers, it doesn't always go over well in sales. That leads to hard self-reflection and the decision about whether or not it's financially worth it to keep publishing. That's where you and Patreon come in!
For $1 a month, you will be added to a list of people who receive my books one week earlier than the general public. You won't have to also buy it when it releases. I'm not asking you to leave a review in exchange. It really is, cut and dry, just one dollar a month. If you were to subscribe for a year, that's $12 for an entire year. If I am suddenly crazy productive and release ten books that year, you got them all for twelve dollars, and each one came a week earlier than everyone else was able to get it. On the other hand, if I'm not productive and only release one book that year, you paid $12 for it (which is somehow still cheaper than most traditionally published books 😂).
Being a Patreon subscriber also gives you access to a private chat channel in my Discord server, The Bookish Bubble. I may also, occasionally, share some behind the scenes things. Books are what I do, though, so that's why the main perk is the early copy of my writings.
I understand your money is important to you and that you want to spend it on worthwhile things. I believe my work is worthwhile. Now it's up to you to decide if you think so too 😊
